Meritocracy as an ideology is very heavily discussed in my home country, Singapore, as it is part of our national pledge. Due to the inequality trap meritocracy creates, it has led to many dialogues about inequality in the country and debates as to whether we should change the way our system works. Despite meritocracy being a concept that is not foreign to Canada, I noticed very little dialogue surrounding the topic but noticed the same issues arising. Through the project, I wanted to promote social action or at the very least public education about the issues surrounding a meritocratic society.
