Design Concept

The concept of the project was based on the flaws of existing denture cleaner packaging: considerations such as impaired hand strength, limited dexterity, and visual impairments that may affect their target audience are not being adequately addressed in products currently on the market. Smile Denture Cleaner’s design targets these factors through eliminating difficult tabs, with a pull-off external lid and flip-open internal packages. All of the featured text on the package is generously sized and spaced, and the dental cleaner itself opens in a single tear-out motion as it is removed from its packaging (as opposed to a package that requires fine motor skills to tear open or pop out).

The Process

Brand Guidelines

The process of development for this project started off with research into the needs of the product’s largely elderly audience in regards to medical packaging. This led to on-paper concept development, with sketches and research into potential packaging forms. With my concept established, I developed a series of rough prototypes to test the function and size of all the elements, as well as how all the separate pieces fit together. It was at this stage that I really began to develop my visuals, including colour, type, and illustrative details. The form of the package was the most important, and I therefore dedicated a large portion of the process to it.
