Moon Mode

Packaging

The project is to design at least one main package and four or more small packets of the same or various sizes, shapes, and forms as package components while considering the environmental-friendly issue and accessibility for the physically challenged and the aging population.

Moon Mode is a sleep-aid kit that the package follows a user-centred design that values accessibility, immersion, and sustainability. It has a simple geometric shape inspired by the iPhone's Do Not Disturb button. The box mechanism relies on the candle to be both the axle and the product, revealing both layers as the lid opens up. Besides, the colour scheme presents a starry night sky that makes users subconsciously adjust their state to "sleep mode." Also, wooden boxes minimize the use of non-biodegradable materials. It can also be used as storage for other items.

The Process

Brand Guidelines

At first, I decided to use cardstock to make the box. After considering the weight and balance of the products, I decided to use stronger materials, such as wood and thick cardboard. To achieve the curvy shape in my design, I found a technique called lattice hinges. After testing the lattice hinges patterns multiple times on wood boards and Peterboro pulp cardboards, I found that the Peterboro pulp cardboard with thin lattice hinges lines is ideal for creating my container. Finally, I sprayed the container with white ink to cover the burnt marks resulting from laser cutting.
