Birds and Bees

Editorial
Branding

Birds and Bees is a zine directed for teens as there is a lack of sufficient learning with the sexual education system. Bird and Bees creates a new narrative, rethinking sexual education and how it is being delivered to youth in schools (exploration outside of school).

Design Concept

The concept of this zine is creating imagery, visuals, and dialogue that is human centric, avoiding the large bodies of text (that is more often found in school textbooks). Through an unfiltered lens, Birds and Bees has content that is never seen before in school sex ed curriculums, creating a vessel for curious teens to explore more about sex/sexuality.

The Process

Brand Guidelines

The initial stages involved a lot of research, including literature reviews and surveys. The data that was collected pointed towards youth having a lacklustre quality of sexual education, and a need for more exploration was found. What followed was finding articles across the internet searching for resources that expanded upon sexual education. Finally, creating spreads based on the final 6-8. articles selected. The visual language was mostly inspired by erotic zines.
